Students New to College
If you have never taken college courses, follow the steps below to get started at Pierce College and register for classes.
1. Apply Online
You will need to provide personal information such as your address, phone number, social security number and educational goal.
Once you apply, you will receive a LACCD email address. All communication from Pierce College will be sent to your LACCD email address. For information on how to access your Pierce College email and/or how to forward this email to your personal email address, click HERE.
Approximately 15 working/business days after you submit your application, you will receive an email with your Pierce College Student ID number. You will need this number to access campus services such as assessment, counseling and health services.
2. Apply for Financial Aid
Visit the Financial Aid website for information and application documents: http://www.piercecollege.edu/offices/financial_aid/
3. Complete ONLINE ORIENTATION (accessed through your student portal)
You must complete the entire orientation in order to be eligible to register.
4. Take your English and Math Placement (or Assessment) Exams (ESL Only)
Due to AB 705 only ESL exams are being offered. Students who graduated from high school within the previous 10 years should receive an automatic placement. You can access your placements in your student portal. If you do not have a placement or have graduated more than 10 years ago, you will need to work with a counselor on the guided self-placement.
5. Attend a New Student Group Session
New Student Group Sessions are offered in the afternoons and on Saturdays. Groups last approximately 90 minutes. During the New Student Group Session, you will get all the information you need to start your academic career right, including information on Majors, classes to take and how to plan your schedule. You will also create an initial student educational plan.
Click HERE to register for a new student group. You will need your Student ID number.
You MUST bring your assessment results with you to the New Student Group.
