Three Brahmas En route to Paris!

Modern Languages Department French Language students Regina Valenzuela Salazar, Adamary Cantillano, and DaSha Hester-Olivarez have been selected by the Dennis and Anne Beaver Foundation to pursue their study of French in Paris this July. The scholarship will cover airfare, four weeks of courses, accommodation with a French family, and various touristic excursions, such as to Provins (a medieval city), Giverny (Claude Monet’s gardens), and a weekend in Alsace, as well as visits to the Louvre, Orsay, Notre-Dame (newly restored), and a night at the Opera (the ballet The Sleeping Beauty).

Pierce Participates in NSF-Sponsored STEM Education Workshop

Three Los Angeles Pierce College faculty and staff members recently participated in the InnovATEBIO Undergraduate Research Strategic Planning Workshop, held in Dallas, Texas. The workshop, sponsored by the National Science Foundation, brought together community college representatives from across the country to discuss strategies for improving STEM education through undergraduate research. Pierce College was represented by Savanah Senn (Plant Science), Travis Orloff (Chair of Physics), and Wiley Brown (Grants Coordinator).

Brahmas Win Top Honors at Statewide AGS Convention

Three students from Los Angeles Pierce College’s Pi Chapter of Alpha Gamma Sigma (AGS) earned prestigious statewide scholarships during the 99th Annual AGS Spring Convention in Ontario, California, confirming the talent and dedication of Pierce students. Ethan Nasseri and Ava Kim were each awarded the Kathleen D. Loly Scholarship for their academic excellence. Noor Kalla received the distinguished Ed Walsh Scholarship in recognition of his leadership and service.

 

UPCOMING EVENT AND HIGHLIGHTS ACADEMIC WORKSHOPS / ASSISTANCE

 

Learn to cite sources with ease at "Cite It Right: MLA and APA Citations Made Simple," happening on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, from 11:30 a. to 12:30 p.m. in the Library, Room 5101. Hosted by the Pierce College Library, this workshop will guide you through the fundamentals of MLA and APA citation formats, helping you avoid plagiarism and boost your academic writing skills. Whether you're new to citations or need a refresher, this session offers clear strategies and hands-on help. 

Join the Pierce College community for Fresh Bodega on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM along The Mall, outside the Library. This on-campus food distribution event offers students access to fresh produce and non-perishable items at no cost. It's a great opportunity to stock up on healthy essentials and connect with campus resources.All students are welcome to attend. 

Experience the powerful stage production Patsy by Alison Minami, directed by John Miyasaki, on Wednesday, May 15, 2025, from 11:10 AM to 12:35 PM in the Great Hall at Los Angeles Pierce College. Presented by East West Players, this performance tells a compelling story brought to life by one of the nation's leading Asian American theatre companies. The event is sponsored by the Dolores Huerta Labor Institute, SBS CAP Community, LA Pierce College, and the Multicultural Center. 

Celebrate the musical achievements of Pierce College students at the Performance Workshop Talent Night on Friday, May 16, 2025, from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM in Music Building 3400. Directed by Dr. Garineh "Gaga" Avakian, this showcase features performances by students from the Performance Workshop class, highlighting their dedication and growth over the semester. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased in person at the Bookstore or online through the Bookstore Box Office

Join us on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at the Multicultural Center (LLC 5110) for a ribbon lei-making workshop in honor of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month. All materials will be provided, and no prior experience is necessary. This event offers a hands-on opportunity to explore cultural traditions and connect with the Pierce College community. 

Public speaking students are invited to compete in Pierce College’s 9th Annual Speech Tournament on Friday, May 23, 2025, from 12:30 PM to 5:00 PM. Round 1 will take place in the Juniper Classrooms, with finalists advancing to the 600 Building. Participants can win cash prizes—$200 for 1st place, $100 for 2nd, and $75 for 3rd—and enjoy free food during the event.
