Pierce Journalism Alumna Delilah Brumer Honored by Society of Professional Journalists

Pierce College celebrates recent graduate Delilah Brumer, who has been named one of two Outstanding Student Journalists of the Year by the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ), Greater Los Angeles Pro Chapter. Brumer will be recognized at SPJ’s 49th Annual Distinguished Journalist Awards Banquet on October 22, 2025, at the Castaway in Burbank.

A bilingual journalist with a strong commitment to covering education, immigration, and government through data-driven reporting, Brumer graduated from Pierce in June 2025 and will begin her junior year at UCLA this fall as a transfer student.

While at Pierce, she served as editor-in-chief of both the Roundup and The Bull, leading the award-winning student publications with distinction. Her growing body of work also includes internships with CalMatters, Southern California News Group, and EdSource, as well as a Capital Reporting Fellowship with Colorado Newsline this past summer.

Brumer is also a member of the New York Times Corps, a selective national mentorship program, and has contributed on-the-ground reporting as a stringer for The New York Times, covering major events including the January 2025 L.A. wildfires and the 2024 election from Arizona.

Delilah’s recognition reflects the excellence of Pierce College’s journalism program and the potential of community college students. The Pierce College community congratulates her on this well-deserved honor and look forward to watching her journalism career continue to rise.
