What does the tutoring center offer? The CAS offers in-person tutoring, online tutoring, workshops, paper drop-off, and Canvas learning resources. The physical CAS, located in Library and Learning Crossroads (LLC) 5130, also has an open computer lab and an open study space. Visit the CAS homepage for more information.
Where is the tutoring center? The Center for Academic Success' physical location is the Library and Learning Crossroads Building (LLC) 5130. We are located downstairs from the library, near the cafeteria. Please see the campus map for more help. We also have many services online. See our CAS Online Tutoring webpage for more information.
How do I apply to be a tutor? The CAS hires every spring and fall semester. To apply, you must be a full time student (12 units), you must have earned an "A" in the class you would like to tutor, and you need a letter of recommendation from the faculty member in that discipline. Can I get tutoring if I'm not enrolled? You do have to be a currently enrolled student, faculty, or staff member at LAPC to use the CAS Tutoring Office and services.
Can I hire your tutors for private tutoring or provide private referrals? All of the services that the CAS offers are free of charge to all currently-enrolled LAPC students. The CAS is not involved in private tutoring linkages, and does not provide private tutoring referrals. If you'd like to learn more, email the CAS Director, Crystal Kiekel at @email.
Can I take a tour of the tutoring center? Currently-enrolled students are welcome to come into the CAS at any time to ask questions and look at the facilities. If you are not a currently-enrolled LAPC student and would like to inquire about booking a tour, please contact the CAS Director, Crystal Kiekel, at@email.
Do I have to be enrolled in a class in order to receive tutoring for it? No, you do not need to be enrolled in that specific class to receive tutoring for any subject. All currently enrolled students have access to all tutoring and services in all subjects.
Do I need an ID card to enter the tutoring center? No, you do not need an ID card to enter the tutoring center, but you do need to know your student ID number to be able to check-in for a tutoring session.
How are tests being proctored now due to the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19)? The CAS does not currently provide test proctoring services.
How do I submit a writing draft for a tutor to review? The CAS provides a Paper Drop Off service, where students can drop off any paper for any class and get feedback from an English tutor within two working days. Visit the CAS Paper Drop Off page for more information.
How long is a tutoring session? All online and in-person tutoring sessions are at least 30 minutes.
How many tutoring sessions can I have each week? There is no weekly limit. For all subjects except math, students are limited to one session per day, per subject. For math, there is no daily limit.
Is tutoring available in multiple languages? Many of the CAS tutors are multilingual. In most subjects, tutors and students can communicate in any shared language they choose. However, all ESL tutoring sessions are conducted only in English.
What subjects can I receive tutoring for? The CAS currently provides tutoring in 30 + subjects, including English, math, ESL, sciences, and more. Visit the CAS homepage for a full list.
   
   
   
Do I need an appointment to meet with a tutor? You do not need an appointment to see a in-person or online tutor. Currently enrolled students get online or in person tutoring. You can do view all our tutoring schedules or visit an online tutor from any Canvas course by clicking on "LAPC Tutoring," or you can start your session here.
